Postpartum Depression and Anxiety
What is Postpartum
Depression & Anxiety
Having a baby is a huge adjustment. Add a slew of hormonal changes, intense fatigue, and (far too often) social isolation, and it's no wonder that Postpartum Depression and Anxiety are so common. Our counselors offer a safe space for mothers to feel supported and guide them out.
If you’ve just had a baby, or you have been struggling emotional since having a baby, you may be wondering if you have Postpartum Depression or Anxiety. How we help?
Our counselors are trained to diagnose accurately and most importantly help clients work through the emotional pain they feel. We find that diagnostic labels are not always helpful if they keep us stuck, but sometimes diagnoses can help us realize we need/deserve to have support. We find that especially mothers have trouble allowing themselves to receive care. But mothers deserve the most care during this very special time! In fact, in order for moms to do what they need to do (feed and care for the baby as well as physically heal), they need a tremendous amount of care and support.
Many of our mother clients find that having a safe place that is their own, separate from others, helps them feel better right away. Our training helps us better understand the factors that may be complicating the newborn period. Often mothers are suprised to see once they begin therapy how many factors are at play in their emotional and physical reactions - family dynamic changes, hormonal shifts, sleep deprivation, previous experiences with their own parents/caregivers, previous experiences with siblings, previous postpartum experiences, and on and on.
We help mothers have a safe and protected space to let down their walls, process their wide range of emotions, cry as much or as little as needed, and begin to better connect back to themselves. Having a baby is very intense and places a lot of pressure on the mother in particular. We are here to support you and help you find more peace, joy, and fulfillment during this time.
